At just seven years old, Drew Barrymore skyrocketed to fame playing Gertie in the timeless 1982 film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. But here's something you might not know: the movie’s director, Steven Spielberg, had some sage advice for young Drew after her big debut.
“After E.T. premiered, endorsement deals were literally lining up at our door, but Steven pulled me aside and said no to all of it,” the now 44-year-old Drew revealed to The Daily Telegraph’s Confidential during a recent trip to Sydney. She went on to explain Spielberg’s reasoning: “He told me to keep a broad vision, avoid selling out, and focus on the long game. It was some of the best advice I’ve ever received.”

Fast forward to today, and it's clear Drew took Spielberg's advice to heart. In 2013, she launched her own cosmetics line, FLOWER Beauty, which has been a massive hit. Alongside her flourishing beauty empire, Drew has continued to shine on the big screen, starring in beloved films like Never Been Kissed and Ever After: A Cinderella Story. But Drew wasn't the only child star to make a splash in the world of E.T. — Henry Thomas also played a pivotal role as Elliot, E.T.'s best human friend.

Now 47, Henry Thomas opened up to Closer Weekly about the challenges of being remembered for one iconic role. "It's tough when you're pegged for an unforgettable performance," he admitted. "But this is an industry where you constantly have to walk into rooms and face rejection or acceptance. If you're too sensitive, it's hard to survive in this business for long." He also shared how fame affected him deeply during his early years.
