Hey there, fans of action-packed TV drama! The curtain is finally dropping on the much-loved series S.W.A.T. on CBS. After eight action-filled seasons, the network has announced that the show will officially come to an end. But don’t worry, it’s not going out with a whimper—it’s going out with a bang! CBS is treating fans to a two-hour series finale, airing back-to-back episodes at a special time on the network in the coming weeks.
What's Coming in the S.W.A.T. Series Finale?
CBS dropped a sneak peek at what’s in store for part 1 of the S.W.A.T. series finale in a press release on Friday, March 21. This first part, titled “Ride or Die,” promises an exhilarating mission for Hondo and his team. The stakes are high, and there’s even a touch of nostalgia as some familiar faces from the past make their return.
According to CBS, “When an auto carrier truck gets hijacked by a high-speed crew, Hondo encounters a ghost from his past—a violent car thief once thought to be long-dead.” This thrilling storyline brings back a fierce rivalry for Hondo, forcing him to confront a fear he’s been carrying for years. And it’s not just Hondo under pressure. Gamble faces a personal crisis when her brother, Leon, becomes entangled in the investigation, putting her future with SWAT in jeopardy.

Part Two: The Grand Finale
As if the first part wasn’t enough, part two, titled “Return to Base,” takes the excitement to another level. “The SWAT team undertakes its final mission when a violent crew of ex-pat Russian mercenaries holds Los Angeles hostage after planting hundreds of hidden explosives across the city in a bid to extort the release of their brutal leader, Dmitri Rykov,” CBS shared. When Rykov is brought to SWAT for safekeeping, SWAT HQ becomes a battleground, forcing Hondo and his squad to fight for their very survival.
Airing Details You Don’t Want to Miss
The special back-to-back episodes will air on Friday, May 16, at 9:00 p.m. ET on CBS and will also be available for streaming on Paramount+. It’s a must-watch for all S.W.A.T. fans who’ve been following the show since day one.
When CBS announced the cancellation of S.W.A.T., fans were understandably heartbroken. The show, led by the talented Shemar Moore, had previously been canceled and then uncanceled twice before. This time, however, it seems the decision is final.

In an emotional Instagram video, Shemar Moore, 54, reacted to the news on March 7, saying, “We are canceled again. It sucks. It’s sad. Had to give a speech today on set to the crew.” But Moore wasn’t done yet. He added, “Uncanceled, canceled, uncanceled twice, two years in a row. Now I don’t know my history, but how many shows get to say that? I’m going to say none or I’m going to say that we’re close to one of the none. But we did that and we are so proud.”
Despite the cancellation, Moore remains hopeful that another network or streaming service might pick up the show. “NBC, Fox, ABC: Hey, you want to come flirt with me? You’re invited to the barbecue. Pick your favorite restaurant. I will pay the bill,” he joked in the clip.
Regardless of what happens next, Moore expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and is currently enjoying his role as a dad to his daughter Frankie, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Jesiree Dizon. “I’m excited about my new chapter. Right now, I’m just going to chase around my little baby girl, my little daughter, but then I’ll get back on the saddle, put my cape on and go be Shemar Franklin Moore,” he said. “But hey, us over here at S.W.A.T., we say thank you, but we ain’t done handling our business. So holler at us.”
