Meet Marie Osmond, the Mom Behind the Spotlight
Hey there, friends! Let’s dive into the remarkable life of Marie Osmond—not just as the beloved singer of hits like “Paper Roses,” but as a mom who cherishes her family more than anything. You might be surprised to learn that Marie has eight kids, and her bond with them is nothing short of extraordinary. She’s not just a star on stage; she’s a devoted mother who has built an incredible family life despite the ups and downs that come with it.
Building Her Family: A Journey Through Love and Heartache
In 1983, Marie welcomed her first child, Stephen Jr., with her then-husband, Steve Craig. But life took an unexpected turn when they divorced in 1985. Just a year later, Marie found love again and married Brian Blosil. Together, they expanded their family, welcoming Rachael, Matthew, Jessica, Michael, Brandon, Brianna, and Abigail. Unfortunately, tragedy struck in 2010 when Michael, one of her beloved children, died by suicide at the young age of 18. It was a moment that tested her strength, but it also brought her even closer to her family.
Music as a Healing Force
In an exclusive sit-down with Closer Weekly, Marie opened up about how music became her lifeline after losing Michael. “When my son passed, I turned to what I know best: singing,” she shared in November 2016. “Some people thought I was rushing back to work too soon, but the truth is, my other seven kids needed me to keep going. That’s how I processed my grief—through music. It’s such a powerful force. If you ever stop loving music, you stop living. For me, music has always been there, whether I’m celebrating or grieving.”

A Stronger Family Bond
Michael’s passing only deepened Marie’s appreciation for her family. During the challenging times of the coronavirus pandemic, she made sure to stay connected with her kids, no matter what. When she traveled to Utah in April 2020, she stopped by to visit Rachael and Jessica, just to check in and show her love. Once she returned home to St. George, she kept the lines of communication open with a group chat. It was her way of ensuring her family stayed close, even when they couldn’t be together in person.
Reflecting on her role as a mom, Marie told the CBS series The Talk, “I’ve seen so many families drift apart over time. But as a mother, it’s been such a gift to watch my kids stay connected. I know that no matter what happens, they’ll always have each other. That gives me immense peace.”
Motherhood: The Greatest Blessing of All
For Marie, being a mom is the greatest accomplishment she could ever imagine. In another heartfelt interview with Closer, she revealed, “All the awards and accolades I’ve received in my career pale in comparison to the joy I feel as a mother. My eight children are my greatest blessings. They’ve taught me more about love, patience, and resilience than anything else in my life.”
