Who would have thought that George Clooney, the Hollywood heartthrob who once swore off marriage and kids, would one day become a devoted husband and father? It all changed when he met his soulmate, Amal Clooney. The Ocean’s Eleven star, in a candid interview with GQ for his 2020 Icon of the Year profile, revealed how his life took a dramatic turn after meeting the brilliant human rights lawyer.
Back in the day, George was convinced that marriage and parenthood weren’t in the cards for him. "I was like, 'I’m never getting married. I’m not gonna have kids,'" the 59-year-old admitted. "I thought my life was full—great friends, a successful career, everything I needed. But boy, was I wrong!"

Meeting Amal: The Turning Point
Enter Amal Clooney. Introduced to George by mutual friends in 2013, she wasn’t just another love interest—she was the person who changed everything for him. "I realized there was a massive empty space in my life that I hadn’t even noticed," George confessed. "It’s like you don’t know what you’re missing until it’s right in front of you."

That empty space soon filled up with love, laughter, and a whole lot of responsibility when George and Amal tied the knot in September 2014. But the real game-changer came three years later when their twins, Ella and Alexander, were born in June 2017. Suddenly, George found himself in uncharted territory: parenthood.
A New Perspective on Life
"I’d never been in a situation where someone else’s life mattered more to me than my own," George shared. "And then, boom—you’ve got two little beings who need feeding, changing, and constant attention. It’s a completely different world, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything." The Batman and Robin actor admitted that becoming a dad gave him a sense of purpose he’d never experienced before.
Before meeting Amal, George had been married once, to actress Talia Balsam, from 1989 to 1993. After their divorce, he dated some of Hollywood’s most beautiful women, including Kimberly Russell, Celine Balitran, Krista Allen, Lisa Snowdon, and Renée Zellweger. But none of those relationships led to the kind of fulfillment he found with Amal.
