Hey there, fellow Sandlot fans! Hold on to your bats because we're about to dive into some exciting news. Remember those summer days playing baseball and rewatching The Sandlot? Well, it turns out the story isn’t over yet. Last summer, we got the scoop on a prequel, and now, drumroll please, we’re getting a TV series too! Let’s break it all down.
David Mickey Evans Talks TV Series Plans
David Mickey Evans, the creative genius behind the 1993 classic, recently spilled some beans during an interview with the baseball podcast “The Rain Delay.” Through The Hollywood Reporter, he revealed that he’s just inked a deal for a TV series based on The Sandlot. Not only that, but they’ve already secured an order for the first two seasons! Evans didn’t explicitly say where the series will debut, but he hinted that it won’t take a rocket scientist to figure out which streaming platform snagged this golden opportunity.
What’s in Store for the Plot?
Evans dished out a tantalizing teaser about the storyline. He mentioned that all the original cast members are back, reprising their iconic roles. The show is set in 1984, and these beloved characters are now in their early thirties with kids of their own. That’s right, folks, it’s a generational Sandlot saga! While we don’t know all the details yet, this alone is enough to get us hyped for what’s coming next.

A Trip Down Memory Lane
Let’s rewind for a moment. The Sandlot, originally set in 1962, revolves around Scottie Smalls, played by Tom Guiry. Scottie, a newcomer to the neighborhood, befriends a group of kids who play baseball in the local sandlot. Things take a turn when Scottie loses his dad’s Babe Ruth-signed baseball and decides to face The Beast, a legendary English Mastiff guarding a nearby yard. It’s a coming-of-age story filled with heart, humor, and plenty of baseball.
The original cast includes Brandon Quintin Adams as Kenny DeNunez, Victor DiMattia as Timmy Timmons, Grant Gelt as Bertram Grover Weeks, Chauncey Leopardi as Michael “Squints” Palledorous, Shane Obedzinski as Tommy “Repeat” Timmons, Patrick Renna as Hamilton “Ham” Porter, and Marty York as Alan “Yeah-Yeah” McClennan. A direct-to-video sequel in 2005 featured a new cast, except for James Earl Jones, while another sequel in 2007 starred the late Luke Perry.
Prequel in the Works
As if the TV series wasn’t enough, Twentieth Century Fox is also cooking up a prequel. Evans is back in the writing room, ensuring the magic of the original film shines through. This prequel will give us a deeper look into the lives of these characters before the events of the first movie, adding a richer layer to the Sandlot universe.
