Let’s face it—who wouldn’t want to be Kate Hudson’s mother-in-law? At the Women’s Cancer Research Fund’s Unforgettable Evening Benefit Gala in Beverly Hills, California, on February 28, Rita Wilson made headlines with an unexpected revelation. The beloved actress and singer took the stage to introduce Kate Hudson, sharing a hilarious anecdote about how the star of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days almost became part of the Wilson-Hanks family!
Speaking candidly at the prestigious event, Rita joked, “I could have had little Kate Hudson babies!” She went on to explain that when Kate was just 14 years old, she used to pedal over to their house in hopes of catching a glimpse of Rita’s stepson, Colin Hanks. “Kate used to bicycle over to my house when she was 14 to see if my son Colin Hanks was home,” Rita recalled, her voice filled with laughter. But as it turns out, Colin wasn’t exactly clued in to the charm of the young Kate. “And Colin Hanks being a little too clueless to realize, ‘Oh my God, this amazing girl is riding by on her bike asking for me,’” Rita added with a chuckle. Talk about missed opportunities!

Kate Hudson's Journey to Love
Though Kate never managed to escape the "friend zone" with Colin, she’s certainly found plenty of love and happiness since those bike-riding days. Today, the stunning star is the proud mom of three adorable children—Ryder Robinson, 15, Bingham Hawn Bellamy, 7, and her newest addition, Rani Rose, who arrived last October with boyfriend Danny Fujikawa. Over the years, Kate has shared her heart with men like Chris Robinson and Matt Bellamy, each chapter bringing its own blessings. Despite Colin missing out, Rita couldn’t be more thrilled for Kate.

“Well, frankly, if anyone’s going to trust that Kate Hudson is the biggest, most amazing, wonderful-hearted, beautiful person in the world, then who wouldn’t believe I’m Kate?” Rita gushed about the mom-of-three, adding a playful jab at her son. “Thankfully, I’ve never met such a misguided individual, except maybe my son Colin.” Talk about keeping it real!
