Marcia Cross Opens Up About Her Anal Cancer And Her Husband’s Throat

Let me tell you something about Marcia Cross. The 57-year-old actress, best known for her role in Desperate Housewives, has been through an incredible journey. Back in November 2017, she was diagnosed with anal cancer, and now she’s sharing her story in a powerful way. Marcia’s experience has transformed her, and she’s ready to take on the world as a new version of herself. She recently opened up to People magazine, saying she feels like “a new me.”

Here’s the thing: Marcia isn’t just talking about her cancer journey for herself. She wants to help break down the stigma surrounding anal cancer. In an interview, she explained, “I want to help put a dent in the stigma around anal cancer. I’ve read so many stories from cancer survivors, especially women, who were too embarrassed to talk about what kind of cancer they had. There’s so much shame tied to it, and I want that to change.” Marcia’s mission is clear: She’s here to normalize the conversation and empower others.

Marcia’s cancer journey began during a routine checkup at the gynecologist. After a digital rectal exam, her doctor noticed something unusual and referred her to a colon and rectal specialist. Following two biopsies, the specialist confirmed the diagnosis: anal cancer. But here’s the good news—her cancer was caught early, which meant that she only needed six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy. Surgery wasn’t even on the table, and Marcia described this as a “relief.”

    The Emotional Rollercoaster of Treatment

Even though her doctors assured Marcia that her hair wouldn’t fall out during treatment, she noticed it happening several months after completing the grueling process. Surprisingly, the hair loss wasn’t caused by the treatment itself but by stress. At first, Marcia admitted it was “disconcerting,” but in the end, she found it to be a humbling and transformative experience. “I’m really glad it fell out,” she told People. “It was totally humbling and heart-opening.”

Fast forward nearly a year, and Marcia is cancer-free. Her doctors have assured her that the likelihood of the cancer returning is low, which is fantastic news. But Marcia isn’t just celebrating her own victory—she’s using her platform to encourage others to stay vigilant about their health. “If something doesn’t feel right, listen to your body and talk to your doctor,” she advises. “Don’t ignore it. Anal cancer is highly treatable if caught early, just like mine was.”

Marcia’s message is clear: Stay informed, stay proactive, and don’t hesitate to speak up if something feels off. And let’s not forget—she’s back to work, starring in the Jane the Virgin spinoff for the CW. It’s inspiring to see her thrive both personally and professionally after such a challenging experience.

Congratulations to Marcia for beating cancer and sharing her story so openly. She’s a true inspiration, and her bravery is helping to change the conversation around cancer. Here’s to Marcia and all the warriors out there!
