A Love Story That Spanned Decades
It all started on a bus when Patrick Duffy was just 22 years old. That’s where he met the love of his life, Carlyn Rosser. Facing Life’s Challenges with Strength and Faith
Patrick Duffy’s life hasn’t always been easy. Growing up in Townsend, Montana, as the son of bar owners Terence and Marie Duffy, he faced his share of hardships. One of the biggest challenges was dealing with his father’s struggle with alcoholism. Patrick once opened up about this to The Daily Telegraph, recalling how his dad would try to quit drinking, only to relapse after a few months. It was a difficult cycle to witness, but it helped shape Patrick into the resilient person he is today.

In 1986, tragedy struck again when Patrick’s parents were murdered by drug-addled drifters at their tavern in Boulder, Montana. By then, Patrick had already found fame playing Bobby Ewing on the hit TV show Dallas, but the sudden loss of his parents hit him hard. Carlyn, who introduced him to Buddhism, played a crucial role in helping him cope with their deaths. Patrick once explained, “My concept of death is different from most people’s. I understand that it’s the most inevitable thing we’ll ever face, and that knowledge brings a certain peace.”
Embracing Life After Loss
Now, Patrick is leaning on that same faith to navigate life without Carlyn. “Buddhism is everything to him,” an insider shared. “It keeps him grounded and centered.” Patrick’s not alone in this journey; he has the unwavering support of his two sons and their families. “His kids and their families are always around,” the insider continued. “He hates being alone, so they make sure he’s surrounded by love and laughter. It’s a truly close-knit family.”
Patrick also stays connected with his former co-stars from Dallas. His best friend, Larry Hagman, passed away in 2012 at the age of 81, but Patrick remains close to Linda Gray. Back in 2014, Patrick fondly remembered the trio they formed: “We called ourselves the Musketeers. Larry, Linda, and me—we were a team.”
